Homer Jay Simpson is a cartoon character from the animated television series The Simpsons. He is the patriarch of the homonymous family. Voiced by Dan Castellaneta, he first appeared on television, along with the rest of the family, in The Tracey Ullman Show’s short film “Good Night” on April 19, 1987. Homer was created and drawn by cartoonist Matt Groening while he was waiting in l James L. Brooks office lobby.
